Holiday Appetizers

I’m finally old and sophisticated enough (just go with it) where I’m being asked to attend parties at friends’ apartments/houses. I was recently asked by a friend to join her and her boyfriend as well as another couple for a night out on the town – but starting with appetizers at her place. Perfect! My dad has been throwing dinner parties for as long as I can remember, so I’ve been really excited lately to be able to cook for people other than me and Josh.

Harper's Bazaar
Me and my friends at our last holiday party. Or a Harper’s Bazaar editorial. My life is so glamorous its hard to tell sometimes (again, go with it).

Here are my go-to appetizers for holiday parties.

Bacon Wrapped Dates w/ Blue Cheese
Make sure to cook enough so that the bacon is crispy, but try not to let them burn! A little caramelization is nice, but I’ve overcooked these before and the dates get a bit chewy.

Phyllo Baked Brie w/ Figs & Walnuts
Umm, this picture, amIright? Substitute the phyllo for puff pastry if you’re feeling more in a Cresent Roll type mood.

Spiced Pecans
My fiance who doesn’t even like nuts chows down on these! They’re great with lemon instead of orange as well.

Proscuitto Wrapped Hearts of Palm.
Another simple pork wrapped masterpiece. It is surprisingly hard to find pictures of prosciutto wrapped hearts of palm, but I promise this recipe is delicious.

Caramelized Onion & Gruyere Tart
I got hooked on these things at True Food Kitchen. You may want to bring more than one…
