GOOP Cleanse Review: Day 1 & 2

It’s day two of my GOOP/Pepper Potts cleanse and I must say I’m feeling great! Although I have to admit I’m not following it to the letter to make things easier.

You have to admit, girl’s got abs!

First of all, I didn’t want to purchase the “Essentials” protein powder from Dr. Junger’s site, so I found one with nearly the same macros: Vega’s Protein Smoothie in Viva Vanilla. They’re both plant based and made with stevia, but the big difference is that Vega is made with a protein mix of pea, hemp, serviced, and brown rice protein and has a greens supplement mix while Essentials is rice protein and contains a vitamin and mineral supplement mix. One thing I did find funny, however, is that the website states that Essentials is only sweetened with stevia, but also includes rice syrup solids, which are typically used to add sweetness. Not super important, just interesting. In terms of macros they are also very similar (see nutritional information below). I’d say quite the good substitution!

Then for the “Move” powder I got lazy and just substituted a tablespoon of chia seeds. I figured the point was to get fiber so everything gets, well, moving, and chia seeds serve just that purpose. I usually alternate between chia and flax seed in my normal smoothie routine so this was an easy one for me.

I also have no clue what her super low-calorie, low-carb tortillas are, so I’ve been using Food For Life’s Brown Rice Tortillas. Warning: they are in no way are like real tortillas. They have a chewy texture and don’t bend without breaking, but for some reason I absolutely love them. A few years ago while doing Kris Carr’s Crazy Sexy Diet she recommended eating these suckers warmed up with Daiya cheeze topped with salsa and I became addicted! Everything else is pretty darn similar.

Here’s what I’ve had for the past two days.

  • Green Tea
  • Smoothie
    • 1 Scoop Vega Smoothie Protein Powder
    • 1 Cup Mixed Berries
    • 1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds
    • 1 Cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk

  • Day One: 45min spinning class (even though Tracy Anderson hates spinning, too bad) plus barre
  • Day Two: 20min run and an hour long jump Pilates class (cardio plus toning, yay!)

Post-Workout Snack

  • Evolution Sweet Greens & Lemon Juice

Lunch Day One

  • 1 Gluten Free Brown Rice Wrap
  • 2 Tablespoons Almond Butter
  • 5 Dates

Lunch Day Two

  • 1 Gluten Free Brown Rice Wrap
  • 1 Avocado
  • 1/2 Cucumber
  • Mustard

Afternoon Snack

  • Handful of Raw Nuts
  • Kombucha (the Gingerade is the best!

Dinner Day One

  • Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets
  • Kale Chips

Dinner Day Two (not technically the plan, but all approved foods at least!)

  • Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets
  • 5 Dates
  • 1 Brown Rice Tortilla

It is definitely less than I typically eat, but I haven’t felt that hungry probably because the foods are all very nutritionally dense. I have felt a little crave-y but that’s to be expected since I cut out my daily Hershey’s Kiss fix from my boss’ candy jar. She’s an enabler, but I love her.

The next three days should be pretty much the same – I’ll report back with my results!

  1. I tried the GOOP cleanse. That was almost 8 months ago and I’m still trying to clean my bathroom for the explosion that happened when my body revolted from all of that green tea. It wasn’t pretty. I hope your attempt is less fiery.

    • Oh no! That sounds like a terrible experience! I’ve been lucky with cleanses and only had one bad experience when I was feeling brave and tried a salt water flush. Never do that, it was horrible.
